      After the First World War, several wooden freighters were beached on the sand bar in Whitby harbour. For many years, Whitby Town Council appealed to the Canadian federal government to have them removed. In 1935, they were towed out into Lake Ontario and sunk.

      Miss R. Gertrude Bryan was born at Whitby in 1872. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bryan. She trained as a nurse at the Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio from 1894 to 1896 under Miss Mary Hamer Greenwood, another Whitby native. She obtained post-graduate training in nursing at …

      Built in 1917, the recreation hall was for the use of the soldiers when the hospital was used by the military. In this picture the Recreation Hall is part of the Ontario Hospital Whitby facility.

      These staff houses were built in 1920.

      The Administration building was built in 1925 and additions made to its wings in 1958. It was demolished in 1996.

      This barn was built in 1919 at the south-east corner of the Hospital Farm Road and Victoria Street, and was destroyed by fire on November 4, 1976.
