      W.J. Murray Tannery stood behind the Brooklin brick mill on Lynde Creek. It was built in 1854 by Moses Bartlett and was later taken over by William J. Murray. The tannery was struck by lightning on June 3, 1890 putting 25 men out of work.

      David Tweedie was born on Lot 29, Concession 3, Whitby Township on July 29, 1838. He farmed this property, known as Broadfield until his death on the same lot on February 16, 1912. David Tweedie is buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
