      File Number: 08/pt1/4-1.3 The "Michigan Side" referred to the east side of Port Dalhousie Harbour. Possibly because the tow teams were jobless when the canal froze during the winter. The men would be transported to Michigan and employed to cut and haul timber, returning to Port Dalhousie in the spring.

      File Number: 02/pt4/8-1.3 The Welland House Hotel was built in 1853 as a natural springs spa. The baths fell into disuse by 1909. It remained a hotel for many years until it closed in 1993. The building was sold and converted into student residences in 1994.
