      The Charles Lynde family lived on the south half of lot 32 of Concession 4 in Whitby Township. The Lynde family originally arrived in Whitby Township in 1804 and settled in the area known as Lynde Creek.

      The Ontario County Jail was built in 1853 at the south-east corner of King and Gilbert Streets and demolished in February 1960. It was replaced by the new jail on Victoria Street in 1958. Governor Schiller took over the jail in 1907.

      The Whitby, Port Perry, and Lindsay Railway ran along Queen Street in Brooklin. This station was built in 1895 at the south-west corner of Winchester and Anderson (St. Thomas Street)in Brooklin. That station burned down on 19 April 1937.

      To deal with unsatisfactory health conditions in the town, sixty women from various churches established the Hospital Auxiliary in 1907 to raise funds for the building of a hospital.       The Canadian Northern Railway was built through the 5th Concession of Whitby Township in 1910. A steel railway trestle was built across Devil's Den over the Lynde Creek. It was demolished about 1937.
