      This photograph was taken looking east from the Whitby House Hotel. The wooden building at right is a blacksmith shop. The brick building beside it is the Whitby Gazette Office. In the background is the tower of the new Post Office before the clock was installed in 1911.

      This is a view of Brock Street north of Dundas.

      This building was located at 171 Brock Street North. John H. Perrin purchased the Royal Hotel in 1910 and owned it until 1921. The hotel was built around 1872 and designed by Toronto Architect Henry Langley.

      J.H. Downey’s Grain and Coal Shop was located at 145 Brock Street South. It was built in 1883 and stands at the north east corner of Brock and Colbrone Streets. From 1895 to 1919 it was operated by Mr. Downey as a grain and coal business.

      The stone post office was built at the south west corner of Brock Street and Dundas Street between 1908 and 1910. It opened in 1910. The clock was installed in 1911 after being shipped from England. It was closed in 1956 and demolished in 1959.
