      People assembled waiting for the arrival of the train at Bracebridge Railway Station. This station was built in 1885 by the Mackenzie Brothers, one of whom became Sir William Mackenzie after he led the construction of the Canadian Northern Railway.

      This photo shows a very large load of firewood or cordwood, cut during the winter months to supply heat for homes in the early days. An arduous task necessary to survival.

      The arrival of the railroad in 1886 marked the beginning of a new settlement near Falkenburg, which came to be known as Falkenburg Station. this was once a major siding for CN trains, operating until the early 1960s just a few kilometers north of Bracebridge.

      This view is looking south over what will become the Wellington St. bridge crossing the Muskoka River in Bracebridge, 1984. The bridge would reduce traffic jams on Manitoba Street but prevent the Segwun steamer from passing.

      The Anglo-Canadian Leather Co. began as the Huntsville & Bracebridge Tannery Company in 1891 but was re-named in 1905. It operated in Bracebridge until 1930.
