      Held a number of businesses including a general store, post office, grocery, feed store, barber shop. It burned down Decemeber 1910.

      Building owned by R.J. Sproule held several business and took up the entire block.

      Founded by A.R. Fawcett, the paper was printed here until the end of the century when it moved to Durham Street. The building no longer exisits.

      John Henry Heard was a carriage manufacturer and blacksmith from 1860 until his death in 1904 when his son took up the business. In the early 1900s he stopped manufacturing and simply sold those made by other companies.

      The building to the right was a general store owned by brothers John and William Boyd in partnership with Fred Hickling.

      Sold to J.W. Armstrong, an merchant and early settler, in 1871. It was bought by his son in law, Fred Hickling, in 1922.

      The three-room public school was built in 1891 to accommodate the growing number of children. It was used until 1968.

      The present Munshaw House consists mainly of the old building and was renovated to match this photograph. Aaron Munshaw was the first to settle on the Artemesia Corners, constructing this hotel for businessmen and travellers.

      In the back right is the Sproule building so is this picture was taken before it burned down in 1910 but after the Bell Company came to town in 1891.

      Built in 1891 and used until 1968, the school was still standing in 2007 but privately owned and falling into severe disrepair. It burnt down on July 3, 2008.

      There was no high school located between Orangeville and Owen Sound so children normally didn't go to school after turning 14 unless they had the means to board elsewhere. In 1910 land was bought from William and John Boyd to build the areas first continuation school.

      Built in 1910, this was the first rural high school in Ontario and the only high school between Orangeville and Owen Sound. The original building was damaged in a fire during expansion in 1952 so the new addition was used until 1968 when the building became inadequate. The high school …
