      The Minnewaska Hotel, originally built in 1897, was later (1908-1916)converted to a private sanitarium for the treatment of tuberculosis. In its third life, it was used as a prisoner-of-war camp, Camp Calydor, during World War II.

      The Gateway at the south end of Gravenhurst was originally constructed in 1925 when the Ferguson Highway was completed, allowing automobile traffic. It has undergone several renovations - this appears to be one from the 1990's perhaps.

      The birthplace of Dr. Norman Bethune was the Presbyterian manse in Gravenhurst in 1890 where Dr. Bethune's father served as minister. It was sold to the federal government in 1973 and officially opened in 1976 as a memorial to an outstanding Canadian.
