      Please look through all the pages to your right of unknown photos of family members in the Wilkinson Norton Family Album. They are most likely relatives of Robert Wilkinson of Palermo and Louisa Norton of Saltfleet.

      St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Palermo, built 1845, is now being raised and a foundation will be built under it. Surrounding it is a quaint country churchyard in which tombstones bear the names of pioneer families of Palermo, sheltered by pine trees whose bare roots reach out like gnarled hands.

      Early land registry records and Trafalgar census records from 1851, 1871, 1881 use the family surname spelling, "Hagar". However, the 1861 census and the family gravestones in the Palermo cemetery use the spelling "Hager". Please research under both spellings.

      Dianne Guertin is one of the girls holding the centennial sign, her brother, Robert Guertin, is in the back row, 2nd from left. The Guertin family lived at the corner of No. 5 Highway (Dundas Street) and Third Line.

      S.S. #2, Palermo, Trafalgar Township. This building is the third school on the site; it was constructed in 1942-1943. It still stands today and is the home of the Trafalgar Township Historical Society, restored to be a working one-room schoolhouse. The extensive Glenorchy Conservation Area is behind it.

      By 1850 Francis 1795-1884 & Clarissa 1807-1886 owned and farmed in Palermo just west of old Bronte Rd at Dundas. In his will Francis left the farm equally to his sons George, Walter and James. Walter sold his share to the other two.
