      The Rene Caisse Cancer Clinic opened on August 26, 1935 on Dominion Street in Bracebridge, in the building formerly known as the British Lion Hotel. People came from all over seeking treatment for cancer with the herbal tea that Rene Caisse called Essiac.

      Construction of the new district court house on Dominion Street in Bracebridge was completed in 1900. The main court room occupied the second floor.       The village of Utterson, located about halfway between Bracebridge and Huntsville, was a busy place in the early 1900's. It had at least two hotels, three general stores and a busy railway station.

      The Cherokee began service in 1908, accomodating 400 passengers. Starting in 1931 she became known as the "Sunset Cruiser", taking passengers from lakeside hotels to Port Carling for evening dances.       Built in 1893, the Medora was 122 feet long. In 1901-2, she was enlarged another 20 feet, making her the largest ship on the Muskoka Lakes until the Sagamo appeared in 1906. The Medora was retired in 1931, placed in dry dock and unfortunately gutted by fire in 1940.

      On the hilltop, one can see the Muskoka District Court House on the right and the Mahaffy home (later Inn at the Falls) on the left.

      The Nipissing, a sidewheeler built in 1871, was the first flagship of the Muskoka Lakes Navigation Company. She sailed until August of 1886 when she was consumed by fire. Her engines and boiler were salvaged and installed in a second Nipissing, the current Segwun.

      The Royal Muskoka Hotel, completed in 1902, was the largest and grandest hotel in Muskoka, accomodating 350 guests on 130 acres. Built and operated by the Muskoka Lakes Navigation Company, it was extremely popular until the hard times of the 1930's. Sadly, it burned to the ground in May 1952.

      Santa's Village, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015, was the result of the vision and hard work of a group of Bracebridge businessmen headed by banker, Yorke Murphy.

      Santa's Village celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015. Situated on the 45th parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole, it seems to be the ideal location for Santa's summer home.

      Santa's Village has seen several river boats over time. The Kris Kringle pontoon boat made its appearance in the 1960's and the swans appeared in the 1970's. These have been retired in favour of a modern craft in 2005.

      Santa's Village has had assorted rides for families to enjoy ever since its opening in 1955.

      244 Brock Street South was originally constructed sometime between 1919 and 1934. It was the location of James Sawdon's coal and fuel business until 1967 when the building was sold to P. Sorichetti & Sons. This building was demolished on September 13, 2016.
