      A photograph of Johann Antonius (Hans) Pokolm, Red Lake, December 1974. Born at Danzig, Germany in 1905, Hans was a pioneer and notable character of Red Lake, Ontario.

      McKenzie Mines located on McKenzie Island. McKenzie Red Lake Mines was formed in 1932. Milling began in 1935. To the end of 1962, a total of 2,068,036 tons of ore had been milled, producing $25 million of gold bullion. The mine closed in 1965.

      Hasaga, another gold producer in Red Lake, Northwestern Ontario, began operations in 1938.

      Gold Eagle Mines located on McKenzie Island. Gold Eagle Mine started gold production October 1937 and closed September 1941. The name was changed to Goldray Mines Ltd. in 1959.

      Gold Shore Mine, began operations in 1937 and averaged 125 tons per day in it's two years of operation. It was the fourth largest gold producer in the Red Lake area. Located on McKenzie Island, this property consisted of 30 mine claims and grossed $750,000 thousand dollars.
