      The Vorvis Trophy was annually presented to a person who has consistently contributed to sports in Whitby. Harry Vorvis, the trophy's creator, was the owner of Maple Leaf Billiards. He first presented the trophy in 1948.

      The original Whitby Dunlops were founded in 1954 when the 1952-53 Oshawa Generals were disbanded after their arena burned down.       This house was built for Andrew M. Ross, a Whitby merchant, in 1879. He was Mayor of Whitby from 1900 to 1902. His daughter, Marcia Ross, lived in the house until her death in 1979.

      Joe Stevens (1881-1963) was a commercial fisherman at Port Whitby from 1917 until his death. In 1947, he built a fishing boat which he named the 'Shirley S.', after his daughter. The boat was was in use until the mid 1960s and was broken up in 1978.

      The lighthouse was built at the end of the west pier in 1857 and removed during reconstruction of the piers in 1958.

      The Brunton Lumber Company was built at Whitby Harbor in 1941. The company manufactured ammunition boxes for Defense Industries Limited in Ajax during the Second World War. The company was later sold to General Mills and was destroyed by fire on February 8, 1951.

      Gordon Neal was born at Oshawa on 27 August 1931 and died at Oshawa on 26 October 2010. He played baseball for the Whitby Merchants and worked in his father's barber shop in Whitby.

      King Street School was built in 1921 on the block bounded by King, Dunlop, Henry, and Gilbert Streets. It was built to replace Henry Street School which burned down in 1920. In 1979 it was renamed R.A. Sennett Public School in honour of its first principal who served from 1921-1952.

      Whitby Collegiate Institute was built in 1873 and was located on the south side of Colborne Street between King and Centre Streets. The school was demolished in 1975-1976.

      This house was built for the Goodfellows in 1926. The Goodfellows moved to this house at 406 Dundas Street West when Mrs. Goodfellow became deaf and her doctor suggested living on a busy street to stimulate hearing. The house was demolished in 1990.

      The Dryden farmhouse was built about 1835 on lot 20, concession 7.
