      The Vorvis Trophy was annually presented to a person who has consistently contributed to sports in Whitby. Harry Vorvis, the trophy's creator, was the owner of Maple Leaf Billiards. He first presented the trophy in 1948.

      "Gramma Allen, Aunt Maud, Aunt Annie in a boat, circa 1950." This photo is located in the Gardiner/Allen scrapbook 1700'2 - 1954. A comment received shares that Emma and Annie were sisters and Maud was their sister-in-law, married to their brother, Bert.

      Jack McAvoy was born at St. Catherines in 1923 and came to Whitby in 1952. He served during the Second World War as a navigator-bombardier with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
