      File Number: 02/pt4/11-1.4 The Welland House Hotel was built in 1853 as a natural springs spa. The baths fell into disuse by 1909. It remained a hotel for many years until it closed in 1993. The building was sold and converted into student residences in 1994.

      Digital copy only. St. Louis congregation began in 1889 when Waterloo Catholics petitioned Reverend Louis Funcken of St. Mary's Church, Berlin (Kitchener) for a Catholic church in Waterloo. The church building was dedicated on January 6, 1891.

      The huge volume of water rushing from Niagara Falls is crushed into the narrow Great Gorge, creating the Whirlpool Rapids that stretch for 1.6 km (1 mi). This is the elbow, where the river makes a sharp right-angled turn.

      A basement was put under the church in about 1925. When Hillcrest United Church was formed it was sold and moved to Limehouse where it is now a private residence.
