      Notes make a point of mentioning `the castle` on the horizon. This refers to the large home atop "Castle rock" at the far end of the street on the right hand side.

      Notes affixed to this photo read: "First Presbyterian Church built in Thessalon - officially opened December 1883, named Zion on the Hill."

      A note at the bottom of the photo reads: "Shaw's Planing Mill - 1890. It was located where Home Hardware is located in 1989 Left side of Main Street at Dobie Street."

      Notes on the back of this photo read, "Donated by Orville Beadle, Lizzie Kirby. Born 08/June 1866, is wife of Henry Kirby sawyer, 1901 census." This is the only photograph with W. W. Bennett - Photographer marked on it. He was the first photographer in Thessalon, circa 1880.
